Tightrope

"Tightrope" by Gillian Cross

Ashley was an ordinary teenage girl who look after her sick mother and do their house works. However, she needed to escape sometimes. She had a secret. She is the one who left tags on the wall during the night which saying Cindy. No one knows who Cindy is, except for her best friend Vikki. ..Or, it's supposed to be. Actually there was another person who noticed the truth. The stalker. Someone who stalks Ashley knows it. Then, she went to ask Eddie for help. Eddie was the guy who looks after his friends (they have to pay prise for it though), and pretty famous in the Row. So he might be able to help her. However, he doesn't seem to be a nice guy..

The book was really interesting for me. If you like mistery, I think you are going to love this book. It's long story, but it worth your time.

The Baby and The Fly Pie

"The Baby and The Fly Pie" by Melvin Burgess

Davey -well known as Fly Pie- was a street kid. So are Sly Sham and his sister Jane. They were Mother Shelley's kids, and they picked through the rubbish for her. One day Fly Pie and Sham wander around, and they found a guy who was badly injured and a baby girl. He said to them he needs something to eat so does the baby, and ask Fly Pie to get something. He had a lot of money, and he said he'll pay for it. Then he helped him, but then, they figured that the baby was kidnapped. The guy needed a cure anyway, so Fly Pie went to ask his sister to nurse him. However when they got back, the guy was dead and the kidnapped bady was still there. They decided to take her back to her parents, and the story began.

The story was very interesting, I think I enjoyed it. It's a bit long though.

The Wizard of Oz

"The Wizard of Oz" by L.Frank Baum

Dorothy and her little dog Toto lived in Kansas with Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. One day, a huge cyclone came there and it brought Dorothy and Toto to the Land of Oz. There was really a beautiful place, but Dorothy wanted to go back to Kansas to see her uncle and aunt. Then she met the Munchkins, and they told her that the Wizard of Oz can grant any wishes. Therefore she started to follow the Yellow Brick Road which leading all the way up the Emerald City. During the journey, she met the Scarecrow who was stuffed with only straws. He wanted to "think," so wanted a brain. When she told him that she's going to meet the Wizard of Oz, he said he wanted to see him too. Then she met The Tin Woodman who used to be a human, and as he became the tin, he lost his heart and he said he wanted to have a heart again. She also met the Lion, The Coward Lion. He wanted a courage. They all have desires to be granted by the Wizard of Oz so they got together and their long journey to the Emerald City started.

I did know the story but I've never read the book, so I chose this book. I enjoyed this story, it was so cute and interesting. I really like the scene when Oz told them that they got what they want during the journey. Even if you know the story, you can still enjoy it I think.

Jeannie of White Peak Farm

"Jeannie of White Peak Farm" by Berlie Doherty

A teenage girl, Jeannie has lived with her family. They has lived at White Peak Park for many generations. They were an united family, and everyone didn't think they would ever split. However, things do change. Her brothers and sisters has grew up, and the way they think changed, and now they have their own desires what they want to do. Even one of her sister -she used to care about Jeannie a lot- act weird, and one day, she suddenly told Jeannie that she's going to marry a guy from the city. Changes like that happened, and people Jeannie loved are all falling apart..

There were some words I didn't know, and sometimes I couldn't understand what's going on.
The story was boring for me, because it's only talking about their family. I got tired while I'm reading this. So I don't really recommend this book.

Island of the Blue Dolphins

"Island of the Blue Dolphins" by Scott O'Dell is the third book I've read. The story is based on the real story about a Native American woman who lived alone on the island called San Nicolas Island from 1835 to 1853.

This story is a survival story of an Indian girl named Karana who left alone on the island. At first she was not the only one left on the island. Her little brother was also there. What happened to them? - When islanders decided to leave the island and the ship came to take them, Karana was actually on the ship but her brother was not there because he was trying to bring his stuffs and couldn't get on the boat. Then she went back to the island since she couldn't leave him alone. After the ship's gone, their new life started. They enjoyed living by themselves, however, a tragedy happened. One day wild dogs attacked
As the story goes on, she faced many difficulties. She had to get foods, waters, place to live, and protect herself by animals. She had to do all of these things by only herself. I can't believe a girl had done these things. If I was her, I don't think I can survive even for a week.

This story was a bit long and boring for me, I figure that I don't like this kind of books.

Character Interview

Character: the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz

Question 1. What made you a coward? Did something happen to you before?

Lion: Nah, I'm not really sure. Maybe I was born to be a coward.

Question 2. What would you do when you met someone/something that makes you scared?

Lion: I'm always feel terribly scared when I met someone, but lions are supposed to be the King of Beasts, so if I roar, every creatures - even the bears and the tigers - will get out of my way. And I won't chase them, because I'm a coward.

Question 3. How did you feel when you met Kalidahs (a great beast with bodies like bears and heads like tigers)?

Lion: That was awfully scared of course! To be honest I even trembled a bit. I didn't know what I should do.

Question 4. But you tried to fight with them, didn't you?

Lion: Yes, because I had to protect my friends, Drothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and that small dog Toto. We could run away though.

Questions 5. So do you think you are a brave lion now?

Lion: Um, I hope so.

The Ring

The Ring by Bernard Smith, this is the second book I've read.

The story starts when the narrator (he was still a 12-year-old boy at that time) met a mad guy on the beach. The dirty mad guy was called Rafael. There was something on a fishing line round his neck, and it was a fish-shaped gold ring. Obviously, this ring is the key item of this story.
12 years passed since then, the narrator became a doctor and he got a chance to see Rafael again. Although, Rafael got 12 years older as well. He was very thin and looked ill.
Actually Rafael used to be a good-looking fine boy, of course he was not crazy at all. Also there was a beautiul girl called Anita in his village, and he fell in love with her. However, one day, he went completely mad. That's when Anita disappeared too.

Did he go mad just because a girl who he loved disappeared?
..There must be other reasons to make a healthy young man go crazy, don't you think?

You should read the book if you want to know what really happened to Rafael.

----------------------------------------------------

I chose this book for no reason, but it was such an interesting story. I couldn't stop reading since I was very curious to know what happened. It's a bit sad at the end though.. Anyway, I really enjoyed reading this :)

How To Be An Alien

Hello all. This is going to be my first book journal. I've read three books at this time, and I'm going to write about it one by one when I have time!

First one is "How to be an Alien," the author is George Mikes. (Actually my first book was supposed to be "Love Among the Haystacks," but it was boring so I stopped reading it.)
It's not really a story, it's all about foreigners and English people. If you read the book, you can see the differences between Europeans and English, like the way they think, things they laugh at.. They are just so different.

It's funny that the author who was from Hungary tried to write what he thought about English and it might be a bit rude, but a lot of people bought this book and said "this is amusing!" There are differences in the sense of humor.

Perhaps you can enjoy reading this book if you are interested in English culture. I like England but I realized that I don't understand their humor very much.. English comedy TV shows are funny though.

Hm this is not a good journal I guess, I'll do better next time!

Hi :)

I should've posted this last Wednesday, but I was not sure what to write to introduce myself and thought I'm gonna do this later, ..then forgot.

So anyways let me introduce myself.
My name is Rina Terajima, I live in Tokyo with my family and a white cat named Rabi. I'm very shy (SERIOUSLY lol) and still suck at speaking English, but I'm gonna do my best.
I love animals/music/movies/shopping/and hanging out with my friends.
I have too many favorite bands to list here, but currently I enjoy listening to All Time Low/The Maine/There For Tomorrow/Every Avenue/We The Kings/Steve Appleton(went to his gig!)/Katy Perry/Taylor Swift/3Oh!3/A Rocket To The Moon/Owl City/and blah blah blah. They all are pretty good bands/artists in my opinion, so check them out if you got a chance!

Usually I don't read books much, but occasionally, I get into it. When I'm in the mood for reading, I enjoy fantasy/mystery/love story.

That's all for now. It's nice to meet you all :)
